To our Y Family and Community of Pictou County,

After a thorough search, the YMCA Board of Directors is pleased to announce Tammy Goodwin as the new Executive Director of the YMCA of Pictou County, effective January 18, 2019.

Tammy has 25 years of experience at YMCAs throughout Alberta. She has worked in 12 YMCA Centres and has held leadership positions that include Program & Day Camp Director, Assistant Manager, Branch Manager, Training Educator and Association Program Manager. She has operational experience in health, fitness and aquatics as well as day camp and philanthropy. In her work with YMCAs, she has provided strategic leadership in fiscal management and day to day operational planning and execution. In addition to her YMCA roles, Tammy held supervisory positions with the City of Fort McMurray and, most recently, the Dartmouth Sportsplex.

Tammy values voluntarism and has held various volunteer roles with Halifax Family SOS, Edmonton Sport & Active Recreation Council (past Board Chair) and Edmonton Community Adult Learning Association (Treasurer and Director). Tammy’s passion for leadership, community development and wellness will be an asset to our YMCA as we work towards our vision of creating a healthy and connected Pictou County.

In collaboration with the senior leadership team and staff, Tammy will continue to implement the 2018-2021 Strategic Plan: improving community health through physical, mental and social wellbeing; fostering a sense of belonging in Pictou County; and improving and extending the YMCA core offerings.

We look forward to welcoming Tammy to our community and to our YMCA.

To our Y Family and the Community of Pictou County,

I am pleased to announce that Heidi Sinclair has agreed to serve as acting Executive Director of the YMCA of Pictou County.    This follows Jim Pomeroy’s move to the Halifax YMCA effective November 23, 2018.   We are currently recruiting an Executive Director for the YMCA of Pictou County and we are hopeful we will be able to share news with you early in 2019.   Until the new Executive Director is in place, Heidi and the Senior Leadership Team will ensure our strategic plan and our programming is progressing as planned.

On behalf of the Board, thank you for taking on this role during this interim period.   We appreciate the Senior Leadership Team’s dedication to the success of our Y.

To our Y Family and the Community of Pictou County,

I am pleased to provide you with an update on the next steps regarding the search for Jim Pomeroy’s successor.

Early during the week of October 29th, a recruitment advertisement will be issued for the role of Executive Director for the YMCA of Pictou County.  The Board made the decision to move forward with recruitment for an Executive Director rather than a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in recognition that an Executive Director is more in line with the needs of our local YMCA and the needs of Pictou County.   Our strategic plan and priorities within the Pictou County community will remain the same.

We anticipate that the recruitment will take 2 to 3 months to complete.  Jim Cooke (our past Chair), Jodi Matlock (our Vice- Chair) and Jason Brown (Regional Y representative) join me on the search committee.  It is our desire to have a new Executive Director in place early in 2019.   We will update once we have more news to share.

As you know, Jim’s last day at the YMCA will be November 23, 2018.   An interim structure will be put in place on Jim’s departure until the new Executive Director arrives.   I will have more details on the interim arrangements in early November.

Please feel free to reach out to Jim Cooke, Jodi Matlock or myself should you have questions.

Sincerely,

To our Y Family and the Community of Pictou County,

It is with mixed emotions that I announce that Jim Pomeroy, CEO of the YMCA of Pictou County, is leaving our Y and taking on a new role as General Manager of the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth.  This is a great role for Jim and, though we will miss his positive energy and leadership, we are confident that he will excel in Halifax.

Originally recruited to a one-year term, Jim brought a lot to Pictou County in his 18 months with us. Together with the Y’s dedicated staff and volunteers, Jim led our Y family on its mission to build a stronger Y and a healthier community, reflecting our Y’s values every step of the way.

Jim leaves his post here on November 23rd and recruitment for his successor will begin immediately.   Until then, Jim will continue with the Y’s senior leadership team and our outstanding staff members, will ensure that we follow the path that is laid out in our strategic plan.

Please join the board in wishing Jim all the best in his new role and be sure to visit Jim at his new facility when you are in the city!

Sincerely,

Cheryl Fraser
