Y Hikes
The YMCA will offer a series of hikes and information sessions this fall.
These are free events.

Registration is required by calling the YMCA at (902)-752-0202 or stopping by the Y.

Hikes are named easy, moderate and challenging. This is based on the length of the route, the time to complete and the terrain. We understand that everyone has their own sense of easy, moderate and challenging; therefore, please use this as a guide only.

September Hikes

Friday, September 6
Location: Caribou Provincial Park – Munroes’ Island
Meeting Time: 10 a.m.
Meeting Location: Parking lot at Caribou Provincial Park (near Pictou Lodge)
Distance: 9.1 km
Description: A flat beach walk. The hike will last about 3.5 hr.s. There is one possible brook crossing, depending on tides. Hiking boots are not needed.

Friday, September 13
Location: Craig’s Way Trail (3.7 km) w/ additional Six Mile Brook Trail option (7.8 km) return
Meeting Time: 10 a.m.
Distance: 3.7 km to 7.8 km

Craig’s Way Trail Location: Take Route 256 through Scotsburn and turn left at Elmfield Road about 5 km past Scotsburn. Drive about 3 km to MacBeth Road (gravel) on the right. Drive in about 2.5 to a bridge. You can park either just before the bridge or just uphill from the bridge at the trailhead.
This is a gorgeous 1.5 hour loop trail hike through mainly conifer forest on trails established and maintained by the “Friends of the Redtail Society.” Hiking boots recommended.

Six Mile Brook option: We will start and finish at Mas Young on the Grant Road. From Route 376 between Pictou and Durham take the Durham Road up to Millsville Road. You will turn left on Millsville Road and driev about 4 km to New Road (gravel) on the left. After 500 m take a right onto Grant Road and follow to end and Mas Young.

We will hike through mainly conifer forest to Six Mile Brook and then follow the brook to the MacLachlan Bothy. Several river crossings will be required. Total time will be about 3 hours.

Friday, September 20
Location: Trenton Park
Meeting Time: 10 a.m.
Meeting Location: Trenton Park Parking Lot
Distance: 5.3 km
Description: We will hike the ‘back trails’ around Trenton Park. The hike will last about 1.5 to 2.0 hrs. You will see old growrh hemlock forest and hike a mixture of rougher back trails and the smoother main trails.

Friday, September 27
Location: Smelt Brook Trail
Meeting Time: 10 a.m.
Meeting Location: Albion Boxing Club parking lot next to Tim Horton’s in Trenton.
Distance: 2.5 km

Description: Enjoy a hike on smooth gravel trails to Trenton Park along Smelt Brook and the Trenton Airport. Hiking boots not required.

Hikes will also take place in October and November.
